Alan L. Griffin, Pastor

Alan became our pastor in November 2000, after spending ten years as pastor in Bonham, Texas.

Alan has been married to Rhonda, an oncology nurse at the Center for Cancer Care at Goshen General Hospital, since 1980.  They have two wonderful married adult children, Chris and Kellie. Chris is a mechanical and systems engineer in South Carolina and Kellie is an ordained Presbyterian minister serving as a hospice chaplain for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

A native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Alan is a graduate of the University of the State of New York and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Alan also studied at the University of Oklahoma and Vanderbilt Divinity School.

Alan was trained by the Center for Parish Development as a Consultant for Profound Change, and later as a coach for Missional Transformation; and by the Lake Institute on Faith and Giving as a trainer in Creating Congregational Cultures of Generosity.

Alan is a member of  the Society of Biblical Literature, and the Academy of Parish Clergy.

Alan has done extensive post seminary study in the area of Christian spiritual practices.

He loves reading, writing, laughing, woodworking, visiting his kids, celebrating life with his wife, and playing with his beagles, Baxter and Bailey.  Alan also loves cooking true barbecue: hickory smoked brisket, ribs, pulled pork and chicken.   In the church, Alan loves to preach and teach, delights in talking with people about their faith journey or exploring sticky theological questions and helping people to grow spiritually.

The two passages that have most influenced Alan’s ministry are from Micah 6:8 “What is the Lord require of you, O mortal, but to do justice love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?” and “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.” Alan’s theology can be reduced to two words:  Love wins!
